Bartkuskis

Bartkuskis is a village two kilometres away from Vilnius – Panevezys motorway; first time the village was mentioned in 1533. In the northern part of the village there is classicism style manor. Earl Ignas and Idalija Broel Pliateris built it in 1845 – 1855. Two-storey right-angled palace is situated on a vertical bank of Bartkuskis Lake. There is a six column portico with triangular gable on its top that occupies one third of the façade. All these things are the sampler of Classicism style. The palace is surrounded by a park. The main alleys are at the end of the park. At the end of main alley there is a massive three arcs gate with baroque gable on the top. Also there are brewery, stables, and peon.

At the end of 19th century countess Stefanija Pliaterytë married Leonas Vankovicius and the manor (dowry) became Valnoncius family property. In 1913 the manor was sold to a well-known lawyer Aleksandras Lednickis (1866 – 1934). After his death his son Vaclovas Lednickis (1891 – 1967) was the owner of the manor till 1939. During the war Vaclovas Lednickis went to London where he published his memoirs, describing his homeland. All the owners of the manor were improving and rebuilding it to make the manor suitable for their needs. After the fire of 1913 Lednickis family has invited Russian architect I .Rylskis to rebuild the palace. The palace remained in classicism style till our days.
