Liukonys

On both sides of Širvinta river there is a village Liukoniai. From the second part of 18th century till the beginning of 20th century it belonged to Kosakovskis family. In 1917 the manor was sold to Lumbis, and during land reforms in interwar period it was parcelled out. The most part of the manor had not remained.

From 1924 there was a school in the manor that was surrounded by a park and was located on Sirvinta River bank. There are some legends and its material proves.

Near Sirvinta River there is an exotic and unusual 3-meter high monument, which is called “the Grave of Turk.” People say that the owner of Liukoniu manor had an illegal servant who was Russian-Turkish war captive. Tsar’s gendarmes got to know about him and came to arrest him, but killed him when he was running across a field. The landlord had buried his servant and made this monument. It’s a rare and rather exotic monument.

On the way to Gelvonai there is a cross and two stones beside it. People say there was a place of lithuanian heathen rituals.
